what recourse do i have if a company gave me a verbal job offer then reniged on it and i gave up a full time job.

You could sue for damages for up to $5000 in a Virginia small claims court but the difficulty would be in your proving by a preponderance of the evidence the oral contract which the company allegedly breached.
