Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Employment Reference

What action should I take if given a bad reference by a former Manager? I left under what I though were good terms - just got an ''Outstanding'' evaluation - I have a copy. I went to another department in the hospital. Now I am trying to get a PT position at another hospital in town as well. My record is impeccable. What should I do? What are my legal rights?

Re: Employment Reference

Keep track of these bad references. If this same manager continues to give you bad references which you know to be at odds with the true facts regarding your employment record at that particular hospital, you may have an action for defamation against this person and, perhaps, the hospital as his employer.
