My ex-employer is preventing me from getting another job

I applied for a job and did not get the job nor an interview. I heard later that is was because of what my former employer said about me. I was wondering what can be done about this sort of slander because it is preventing me from getting a job.

It's possible that you might have a case for defamation against your former employer but, of course, more facts would be needed to determine this, and, more precisely, the exact nature of what was published(meaning communicated) with respect to your person when the adverse job reference was given.
