Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
I was forced out of my job, do I have a legal recourse?
Dear Sir:
I live in Virginia Beach, VA but worked in Portsmouth at The Pines Residential Treatment Facility. This institution is a healing center for youth at risk but for me, it was just the opposite--it was a living hell. The Pines has facilities all over the United States and it alarms me to know that they receive funds from the government to heal others but are masters at covering up their ills inflicted upon employees by their supervisors. I was employed and suffered psychological abuse, slander, stress, humiliation and retaliation by my ex-supervisor and for reasons that I still am not aware of. I walked off of my position at The Pines a few days ago, but still suffer stress from my experiences. I have written an average of 1 letter per month outling the abuse and behavior of my supervisor summarizing eight months of hell.
I was ultimately forced out of my position as the treatment I received from the supervisor became intolerable. I now suffer with back pain and sleepless nights as a result.
I would like to expose the treatment I received at The Pines because it is too much to bear and I know that others are suffering from the same treatment but are too afraid to speak out.

Unless you were working under a contract or collective bargaining agreement which offered protection against this kind of supervisory conduct or you come under one of the protected categories of federal anti-discrimination law,
i.e, age, sex, national origin, certain disabilities, etc., you would not appear to have a viable case on which you could initiate a lawsuit against your former employer based upon the facts which you've described.
