Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Forced training on days off

I work in a call center for a major cell phone company. We always have calls waiting. We had mandatory training during our shift scheduled but we had calls waiting so they cancelled it. Now they are telling us we have to come in on our day off and do this training or its our job. Is this legal. We get OT but does this fall under the old clause that anything over 40 hours has to be voluntary. I am a single parent w/two kids, my days ''off'' aren't really ''off''

Re: Forced training on days off

No, I would think it would not be considered voluntary if the company considers such training essential to the performance of your job.
