Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

hiring

My son was hired by Lowes. He attended orientation and was told that when he had living arrangements he was to contact them to begin work.

The manager that hired him transfered and the human resources person that hired him quit.

He moved to Fairfax, VA and went to the Lowes where he was hired. He was told that they had a record of his hiring but they had hired someone to take his position. They haven't been clear as to whether he has a job or not. They said he could train another day this week. But the position he was originally hired for is filled. They may not even be able to give him full-time work.

Are there any labor laws that protect my son?

Re: hiring

No, not under these circumstances (in my opinion).
