Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Hours

You are hired to work a minimum of 30 hours a week. During a holiday or special event you work 50 hours a week. The very next week your employer cuts your hours to 10 because ( in their opinion ) this averages out to 30 hours a week. Is this legal?

Re: Hours

If you're paid by the hour, DOL(Deparment of Labor) rules require that you be compensated at time and one half for all hours worked over 40 in any given week. (The employer may not evade this requirement by averaging an employee's hours worked in different weeks so that it does not exceed 40 on average for the weeks involved.)
