Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Illegal Interview Practices
I recently went on a job interview with a non-profit organization. In addition to keeping me for nearly 5 hours, the interview consisted of him requiring me to complete a budget. This involved asking me what I spent on everything from housing to entertainment to cosmetics. After having me complete a brochure for him to prove my computer skills, he sat me in his office. He indicated that he was a ''straight-shooter'' and frequently ''tells it like he sees it.'' He then said he wanted to address a concern of his. He said ''Your weight. What, if anything, do you feel like discussing with me about your weight?''
Is this legal?

Re: Illegal Interview Practices
Your weight could be a relevant(and legal) point of inquiry for a potential employer if it could be reasonably related to the functions of the job for which you were being interviewed.
