I am interested in finding out if it is legally permissible to punish an employee for tardiness by altering the schedule to effectively reduce the employee's income by 1/3 for six weeks.

Unless the employee is working under an enforceable contract

which would prohibit such a practice as described, the answer is very likely

in the affirmative, i.e.,"legally permissible".
