Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Job Disclosure
I was curious to know, I was let go from a job and I was trying to get another job. They guy was ready to put me through to get an interview. They called my previous employer an they told them why I was let go. For that reason the job I was interviewing with told me they was going to move forward. They told me the exact reason why the other job let me go and said that they told them. They never asked about my previous jobs but I knew it was possible the would call for reference. Now is it against the law for my previous employer to disclose that information? Any help is greatly appreciated

Re: Job Disclosure
No, it would not be "against the law" for your previous employer to disclose information regarding your employment history with that particular employer.
There is, however, always the possibility, that such disclosure could be considered defamatory information and possibly make the disclosing employer liable for damages in civil court.
