i applied for a job at a company that my brother's girlfriend's parents owned;they asked me earlier to come work for them, but my brother and his girlfriend have just previously broken up.the only reason that i can figure that i was denied employment is becouse my brother has a record. my work history is ecxellent.

Well, let's say that all of your suppositions regarding as to why you weren't hired by this company are true, e.g., your brother's record, the fact that he broke up with the girlfriend (or, perhaps, that chartreuse colored shirt that you wore to your job interview), etc.
So what? This company could refuse to hire you for any one of those reasons irrespective of what you believe to be your excellent work history. (The Commonwealth of Virginia is, after all, what is known as an employment at will jurisdiction.)
