I was laid off from a small company I was not the last hired and was the only one laid off I was given no notice of layoff coming just arrived to work and was handed to me is this right?

No, not necessarily "right", but, nevertheless, quite permissible in a so-called employment at will jurisdiction such as the Commonwealth

in situations where the employee is working without the protection

of a valid contract which offers protection against this kind of adverse

action.by the employer.
