Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Layoff/Harrassment

I was harrassed for six months by my boss. Nothing was done from higher up. I filed a complaint with corporate and still nothing done. Actually, once the complaint was filed I was laid off. My position has recently been posted. I feel I was let go due to retaliation. Can a company just dismiss harrassment complaints?

Re: Layoff/Harrassment

No, they may not, Based upon the facts presented you may very well have a claim for retaliatory discharge. I would suggest contacting an attorney to review in detail any potential case.

Re: Layoff/Harrassment

Yes, you might have viable claims in federal court if the alleged harassment was sexual in nature, but not for other kinds of harassment not sexually-based.
