Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Is it legal for an employer to deduct money from my check without it being taxed to replace money stolen by contracted subcontractors? I was in charge of them, and I didn't sign anything. They did sign contracts stating they were responsible for any money missing.

Before I could offer an opinion on this matter, I would need to review all relevant paperwork/documents which relate to your relationship with your employer and these subcontractors and this money which was allegedly stolen by them to understand why your employer would now consider you somehow liable for this loss.
