Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Is it legal to do this?

My wife works for a very large corporation and she was harassed at work verbally. She went to her supervisor and was referred to human resources. They reprimanded the individual (who was the office supervisor). Now someone either her supervisor or someone in human resources or the individual himself has told the whole office about the situation. She is now gossiped about and segregated by her peers for doing the right thing through the right channels. I it legal for any of the above listed personnel who were told this in confidentially to spread the story around causing her problems with those she works with?

Re: Is it legal to do this?

Yes, gossip, is still legal in the workplace until it rises to a level of what might be defamation.
