Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
I'm Losing My Job to my Boss' Girlfriend
I work for a small start-up nonprofit, there are two of us, my boss and myself. About 6 months ago he began an affair that was not public with an employee of another company that is owned by our funder. She lives and works in another state, to which he travels on business almost every week. I am about to be laid off at the first of the year and she will be hired. He has told me some of this but I've heard the rest from someone at the other company. Of course there is more to this story but I wonder if this constitutes sexual harrassment or unfair working conditions as I have not had the same ''playing'' field as this gal has. By the way my boss is a minister. Goes to show you.
I am a 48 yr old female. I have worked here since our inception about 2 years ago.

Re: I'm Losing My Job to my Boss' Girlfriend
What you have described fits neither the elements required for a quid pro quo sexual harassment case nor those which are needed to establish a hostile work environment as a basis for such a case in violation of federal anti-discrimination laws.
And, furthermore, working conditions which you may regard as unfair are not necessarily in violation of either federal or state law.
