Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Lost company equiments

my car got stolen along with 3 laptops and 1 desktop which belong to the company I work for. I've already reported to the police. The equiments are insured. I didn't get fired but I will need to pay back the market value of those computers to my company. Is this fair to me?

Re: Lost company equiments

Probably; why wouldn't it be unless somehow the vehicle was stolen through no fault of your own while you were elsewhere in the course of conducting the company's business during which time the vehicle had been properly secured with all doors locked and no key left in the ignition? If the loss can in any way be attributed at least in some part to your apparent negligence, then you should likely have to pay.(And, yes, I'm afraid that that would include leaving the car parked overnight at your residence with the equipment inside--even if the doors of the vehicle were properly locked.)
