Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Lost wages due to a delayed start date

I recently received an offer letter

from a company (in Virginia) with a

start date of sept. 4th. I signed the

offer letter, faxed it, and then gave

my 2 week notice to my current

employer. The friday before I was

supposed to start I received a call

stating my background check was

delayed and I couldn't start till the

next monday. The next friday I

recieved a phone call stating that

again the background check was

delayed. I ended up not starting till

the 17th of september, losing a full

paycheck. My question is, do I have

any legal recourse to obtain the lost

wages for those two weeks I was

unemployed?

Re: Lost wages due to a delayed start date

Of course not, and be happy that your new employer decided not to withdraw their offer of employment and leave you "out in the cold", so to speak, as happens quite often with these kinds of situations involving a promise of new employment which then is withdrawn by the offeror for often what turn out to be allegedly "indeterminate" reasons.
