Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Mandatory Employee Meal Deduction
I work at a major hotel chain. When I first started they offered an ''optional'' meal deduction of 18.70 per pay period or 10 days at 1.87. Now that people were caught eating without paying, I was told every body has to sign the paper for the deduction. When I refused, stating that I had never eaten there in my eight months with the company, they told me to sign it or I couldnt work. Basically, I was threatened with my job if I did not sign the paper for the food I do not eat. Is there a law against this?
