I was terminated while out ill with a Doctor's note. Is this legal ?

Yes, unless you were working under a contract affording protection against such summary action,

or, were legitimately on leave under the Family & Medical Leave Act, you are apparently without viable recourse in the right to work jurisdiction known as the Commonwealth of Virginia.
