Memo on the Internet

I recently did a search on my name on Google. I was surprised to find a three year old memo from a company to my old employer which states ''Mr. X claims he was employed with Company Y. We checked with branch Z that Mr. X claims he worked at but no one there had ever heard of him. Can you verify he was employed with your company?''. The reason branch Z never heard of me was because everyone there started after I left. I believe this memo gives a negative impression about me. The company that inquired should have found out years ago that I did work for the company and should not have posted this memo and kept it on the internet. I am not happy. Do I have any legal recourse?

Aside from the fact that you're not happy with this three year old memo recently "googled" up out of cyberspace, what are your real and provable damages, particularly in your business or professional life.?

If you really can't prove any such damages, you can pretty much forget about a defamation suit as your legal recourse for this situation.
