Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

On November 9, 2009, I announced my separation from my company. The date I specified was November 27, 2009.

However due to the Thanksgiving holiday, my manager scheduled my exit interview for the 25th. I was under the impression that my paycheck would continue until the separation date I had originally specified in my announcement. During the exit interview my manager informed me that they had bumped up my separation date by 2 days and they would not pay for Thanksgiving and the day after.

Does my employer have to adhere to my original separation date or can they let me go earlier without compensation?

And if they let me go earlier than my separation date, am I liable to reimburse them for covering my tuition? (Contract says I am only liable if my employment is terminated for cause or voluntarily by me)
