Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I was offered a severance package from my employer but I must sign releasing them of liability....one of them being I waive my right for future employment.

I do not agree with the reason for separation and I do not want to waive my right for future employment. I also do not want to burn any bridges....and I want the money they are offering.

Should I sign? Can I ask to get the waiver of future employment taken off? I wrote a personal statement that I would like to attach to the signed severance stating my side of the story...the HR lady told me she would be happy to attach it to my personnel file.

Any advise on what I should do is appreciated. Thank you

I cannot comprehend how such an agreement which supposedly bars you

from exercising your "right to future employment" could ever

be recognized in the courts of the Commonwealth as valid and enforceable.

However, aside from that, I would suggest that you have an attorney with some experience in employment law issues review this document before you sign it or anything else related to this matter and who should then be able to advise you as to an appropriate course of action.
