Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I am originally from Connecticut however I recently relocated to Virginia. I have a felony record that is 9 years old. I know that in CT the record has to be 7-10 years old before certain companies can consider hiring an individual. I went to a job interview yesterday here in VA at a secutity company and they told me that in VA the record has to be 18-20 years old. I want to know if that is indeed true.

The Virginia record according to whom? For some companies, a felony record

could bar the person from being hired forever; for others, perhaps, not.

In other words, there is no set rule for such hiring and it is likely a matter of individual company policy(in my opinion).
