Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Being paid to drive a School Bus

I have several questions regarding at what point my pay begins, and ends. My day is broke into two separate ''Block Times'', am and pm. I guess that I would need more than 1250 words to get it all out, so, I will try and limit my question to just one time frame within my hourly paid work day. I drive a school bus for a public school system. I have to drive my personal vehicle to the bus parking location. The system does not want to pay me (in the afternoon) the amount of time it takes to drive their bus from the parking location to the first school to pick up the children. This time spent driving their school bus is for the benefit of the school system, not me. Shouldn't I get paid for that time?

Re: Being paid to drive a School Bus

If you're covered by a collective bargaining agreement and have a union representative, you should bring this issue to the attention of this

person. If not, and you're on your own, not working under a contract, you might solicit the opinion of the employment division of the

Virginia Dept.of Labor and Industry and see what they have to say about this.
