Pay deduction

I just started working as a waiter in a Bar and Grille. Twice this week I have had parties simply walk out without paying their check. My manager made me pay for their checks. Can he do this? If not how can I get the money back? What should I do?

Yes, unfortunately, I believe the restaurant manager can get asway with this practice, which might suffice for you to look elsewhere for employment.
