Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

last paycheck held for training

My ex employer sent me to training on two occassions, I never signed anything saying I would be responsible for the money. They have taken my last paycheck to compensate for the training. Can they do that?

Re: last paycheck held for training

Sure, they've already done it. However, whether it can be done legally, leaving you without recourse, is quite a different matter, entirely, and would likely depend upon whether there was some implied contract or understanding that you would be responsible for at least part of the cost of the training under certain circumstances, such as your premature departure from the company.
