Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Paycheck on Termination?

I was let go from my position last week. It was not an emergency termination, meaning I didn't do something majorly wrong that was I fired for on the spot, it was apparently considered in advance by my employer. I have not received my final paycheck and do not anticipate seeing it until the next regular pay date. Isn't my paycheck supposed to be given to me at the moment of termination, or very shortly thereafter?

Re: Paycheck on Termination?

I know of no laws that require a Virginia employer to give a terminated employee his or her paycheck "at the moment of termination or very shortly thereafter". As long as it is remitted within a reasonable period thereafter such as a couple of weeks, I see no problem.
