paycut notification

My employer notified me about my salary reduction on Jan 04, 2002. But the paycut was effective Jan 01, 2002. Is this legal. Am I legally not supposed to be informed about my salary reduction prior to the effective date.

No, only if you're working under a contract which contains a provision requiring the employer to give you prior notification before implementing

a salary reduction.
