Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Petitioning in Workplace
I have a friend who was fired for creating a petition. The petition concerned whether or not she was completing her assigned duties. She was caught by a manager and rudely escorted out of the building. Is the company allowed to fire a worker for creating a petition defending herself? Thank you for your help.

Re: Petitioning in Workplace
Yes, unfortunately, in a so-called employment at will jurisdiction such as the Commonwealth of Virginia, unless the employee is protected from such summary dismissal by a valid contract of employment or collective bargaining type of agreement(union).
