Protection rights to a Massachusetts employee offered a contract in Virginia
I am currently a IT consultant in Boston and was recently offered a employment offer, by a defense contracting firm in Virginia. The offer is contingent upon the firm securing funding from its client, and upon doing so requires me to relocate. However, to proceed with the offer I need to sign the contingent offer ( by the contracting firm) which includes relocation package.
The contingent offer does NOT offer any protection if get terminated by employer as a result of employer inability
to sustain funding for the project or failure to provide
full committment to its client due to budget or other related budget issues.
Questions:
1. What protection (or rights) do I have if I am terminated AFTER relocating, either due to the firm
not fullfiliing its requirement to it client OR not securing full project funding for the entire project
I am told my contract may be terminated in this case, BUT are they suppose to pay relocation allowance to return to Massachussetts, according to VA law?
2. If terminated, am I eligible to receive unemployment benefit in Virginia after relocating (even if I decide to maintain my MA residency, since I have a property in Boston)?
