Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Questionable Termination

I have worked for a printing company for over 21 years. In June of this year, my doctor took me off work to do surgery on my left elbow(cyst) and thumb(arthritis/rebuild thumb). I was off on short term disability until Sept 22, at which time I returned per doctor's orders. However, I had a lifting restriction of 10lbs. Two weeks after I returned to work, they laid me off permanently citing not enough work. Of course, it will be extremely difficult for me to look for another job while I still have the 10lb lifting restrictions. I was just wondering if this is all above board, or if they might be violating the American Disabilites Act. I would like to know if its worth hiring a lawyer, or should I just cut my losses. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Re: Questionable Termination

You could file your ADA claim with the EEOC, and, in the event they issue you a "right to sue letter", consider engaging a lawyer at that time.
