Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Racial slander

I work in a medical office. Due to a particular family's unpaid bills, bad checks, etc., I confirmed with an associate that we could not charge any more to this family's account, then told the mother this. A fairly new coworker who is not involved in the accounts receivable process, took it upon herself to tell the mother that I would not let her son be seen because I was ''a racist''. This employee, the parent and coincidentally, the associate I checked with, are all black and I am white. I have friends of all colors and people who know me would not consider me ''racist''. My boss heard about this comment from the mother and was shocked. She told the employee not to ever say anything like that again. This employee continues to badmouth me but not as strongly. Is there anything I can do??

Re: Racial slander

Sure, bring it to the attention of your

boss again and ask that something be done administratively to silence the mouthings of BADMOUTH.

A lawsuit charging defamation for this kind of issue would seem somewhat premature at this stage of matters (in my opinion).
