Resignation laws

I resigned and gave a 30 day notice as requested by the employer's written HR policy. The day after my resignation, the company asked me to pack up and leave. Even though I gave a 30 day notice as requested, they are only paying me for 2 weeks. Is that legal?

Why wouldn't it be, particularly, in an employment at will jurisdiction like the Commonwealth?
