Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Responsibility of Corporation for Hiring/Firing practices of a Manager
I work in a sales position for a large pharmaceutical company. My compensation is based on a group effort of five sales reps in a territory, each having a different manager. One manager, responsible for 2 out of 5 people in my group has hired inappropriate people over the past 2 years, resulting in their termination within 6-7 months of their hire date. This manager's poor hiring practices has decreased the sales in my territory over the past 2 years extensively. It was the #1 territory in the nation, now falling dramatically to the bottom. Do I have any way to stop this manager from hiring inappropriately again? Does my company ''owe'' me any lost compensation for not taking any action with this manager over the years of poor decision making and lost resources?

The answer to your first question is no, other than bringing the matter to the attention of your immediate supervisor or the company personnel manager with whatever risks that might entail for you.
And no, the company does not "owe" you, nor are they liable under any legal theory that I'm aware of for the speculative compensation that you reference in your second question.
