Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

retaliation for suing

I live and work in the state of VA. I currently have a dispute with my employer about commission pay. I was told that if I take my employer to court, they will fire me without any recourse because VA has the employment at will status. Is that true? Does this consider retaliation?

Re: retaliation for suing

Your better course may be to attempt to work through the employment division(wage and hour) of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry to see whether these folks may be able to assist in resolving the dispute.(I'm not sure about how much they get involved in commission pay issues but it may be worth a try before involving yourself in litigation with your employer which likely would at some point result in your termination.)
