Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Have not returned my personal property

I am a travel RN. I had a contract and had worked two weeks when they terminated my contract. I was told by my travel company not to go to the hospital or talk with any of the employees there. I returned home. My company said they would talk with the hospital and get them to return my personal items from the locker that was assigned to me. I gave them the combination so they would not have to cut the lock off. After two weeks my company told me that the people at the hospital were not returning their calls and that they didn't know what they would do about my personal items. I then called the human resource dept and asked them to return my items. They said they would. But after a week I still don't have my personal items. A friend who is a lawyer in another state mentioned using a law called conversion to get those items back. These items would cost me approximately $300 to $400 to replace. What should I do? I really do not to pay for or take the time or stress getting a lawyer would take. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Re: Have not returned my personal property

File your case against the hospital for the market value of your never-returned

items in small claims court.

You can do this for about $30 and without the assistance of an attorney. (The hospital is probably stone-walling you now because they don't have the items to return because one of their employees converted them.)
