Safety of Employees

I have a question about something I think is unsafe, and I was wondering if there are any laws dealing with it. Most nights, there is only 1 employee working for the last hour that we are open. We close between 9-11 p.m., and we are usually the only store open at that time in our entire shopping center. Our employee handbook states that 2 employees must be working at all times that the store is open, but that isn't how it really is. I feel like this is very unsafe. Do any laws apply to this? This rule is stated in our employee handbook. I would just like some information on this topic. I want to be knowledgable should I ever decide to discuss this issue. Thank you.

No, there are no laws in the Code of the Commonwealth that I am aware of which would apply to this particular situation. However, if such is the case, that would in no way negate the possible liability of the employer for untoward events that might occur in the late evening hours when the store

space may be undermanned, according to the requirements specified in the employee handbook(of which you might wish to make a copy, if you don't already have it in your possession).
