Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Sick leave

My wife is a sales manager for a home builder . She recently contracted mono and was out of work for two weeks under doctors orders. Well out her company placed another sales person in her model home, upon my wifes return she was notified that she was being placed in another sight. This new sight represents a 50% pay cut, after pursuing the issue with the president of the company she was told that if circumstances had been different and my wife had not been out of work then she probably would not have been moved to another sight. I understand that virginia is a at will state but this seems wrong, after all she was almost hospitalized and had a doctors excuse. Does she have any recourse?
