Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Signing bonus payback

I received a $5,000 signing bonus ($2500 payments in adition to each of my first two normal paychecks) when I started at my present employer which only stated that I had to repay it if I left within one year (no other stipulations as to how soon after I left or in what denominations). I signed the agreement and returned it to them before I started. I only received about $4200 of the bonus after taxes, etc... and now four months later I'm leaving. What are my repayment obligations in respect to the bonus as far as amount and time? Do I have to repay it all at once or can I make payments and how long do I have to repay the whole amount since the agreement didn't state that?

Re: Signing bonus payback

These are all very relevant questions which should be addressed to the other party to the contract, namely your employer.
