Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

slander

myself and 3 others were reported sleeping on job. this was not true. the employees reporting this was someone who just started and one who was holding a grudge. we were terminated before we were even contacted. basically the whole job knew before we did. there was no formal investigation done to our knowledge. we were wondering what can be done. everywhere we've applied for a nursing job someone from that job knows what has happened. please hep if you can.

Re: slander

If you've been defamed by either your former employer or fellow employees and, as a result, have suffered provable detriment such as not being able to secure further employment in your chosen profession, you could possibly have a viable case against those responsible for defamation, although proof sufficient for a judge or jury to rule in your favor would likely be difficult to come by.

You would be well advised to keep careful records of each of your applications for employment and what reasons, if any, which are given by the prospective employer for each turn down and, what role, if any, an adverse referece given by the former employer may have played in your failure to secure the job.
