Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Hello, can my supervisor at work put in my work history something that is untrue. My supervisor put in my file that I passed out due to heart problems. I have never had heart problems, and I never told her that I passed out from heart problems. I know Hipaa forbids a medical facility or provider/professional to give this type of personal medical info out without my authorization. I work for a large corporation (major airlines) and I am in a union-AFA. Thank you. Gordon

It would seem appropriate for you to make a direct request to your HR department to have this factual inaccuracy deleted from your personnel file. And, if your request is denied, then you might consider taking the matter up with your union shop steward and explore the possibility of initiating a grievance action if such is permitted under your collective bargaining rules.
