Taking away days off

The DON of the nursing home I work in has informed the staff that if you call off sick even with a doctor slip they can still refuse to accept the call off and expect you to come in to work and that to the facilities discretion we would be made to make up that time and it would typically be on our scheduled week end off. Can they take our days off from us for this reason?

Yes, they very probably can unless you and the other staff are working under a contract of employment or collective bargaining type agreement which would prohibit this practice.
