Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Time off validation

I was mugged Sunday, and took off half the day Monday to deal with the police. My employer is requesting documentation to support the unpaid absence. I'm uncomfortable giving this to them, and would like to know if I am required in any way to do so.

Re: Time off validation

No, you're certainly not required to provide your employer with the requested information, but, then again, in an employment at will jurisdiction such as the Commonwealth of Virginia, your employer is

very likely under no obligation to retain your services as an employee if you fail to do so.
