Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I am being told that my employer is going to start paying me less if they have me do a certain assignment. I am a CNA in a hospital and they are saying that if they assign me to sit (observe 1:1) a suicidal patient or a patient with dementia, they will pay me much less.
