Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Unemployment Dispute

I was fired on July 3rd, 2006, for warrantless reasons, and though I know that Virginia is an at will state, my ex-employer is now disputing the fact that he fired me and I have now been disqualified for unemployment based on the fact that evidence was inconclusive either way. I'd like to know if there is anything I can do to sue to get my unemployment benefits and also whether or not I have a case to sue him for slander as he accused me of being a racist based off of the state I am from. Any help at all would be severly appreciated. I am not looking to get my job back, and I am currently looking for positions elsewhere, it is basically a matter of principle and the fact that this guy thinks he can do and say whatever he wants to people and get away with it, regardless of the affect on others.

Re: Unemployment Dispute

You can request that the circuit court in the city or locality where you were last employed review an adverse decision of the appeal examiner of the Employment Commission.

Based upon the few facts which you've provided, I would doubt that you have a viable cause of action for defamation(slander) against your former employer.
