Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

unemployment insurance claim

I filed for unemployment in the state where I worked VA. I received a letter saying that I was dismissed due to ''misconduct''. I was out of the country and had no way of calling. So they fired me. I have to now have a unemployment hearing later this week and I need to know if they can disqualifly me for not calling into my job.

Re: unemployment insurance claim

The issue will likely be at this hearing whether you were fired "for cause" and if you are found to have been absent from your job without proper permission from your employer, such cause will likely be found and you will more than likely be disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits as a consequence.
