Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Unemployment and school
I live in the state of Virginia and I lost my job in April and I began to receive unemployment benefits. I have been actively seeking employment with no call back as of yet, so I decided to enter school so I can get a stable job, I advised the unemployment commission that I entered school and my benefits stop. I am a single mother of 2 and I applied for financial aid which went to the school. I was not given any other grants and to cover the rest of the school cost I had to take out student loans. I have no income coming in and I still have 3 months left to receive unemployment, what does unemployment have to do with my school and is this legal and what is my recourse?

Re: Unemployment and school
If the current rules for receiving unemployment benefits in the Commomnwealth prohibit the recipient from enrolling in school during the benefit period, that's it, you have no recourse.
As to why this is the rule and the rationale behind it(if any), are matters you would need to take up with the Commission.
