Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Verbal Agreement - liable
Husbnd & I were n the process of selling our hm w/the same realtor that helped us buy it. The realtor came & gave some suggestions on things that needed 2 b done inorder 2 pretty up things 4 resale. He offered 2 have a contractor buddy of his help do some fixings. The realtor told us a price $1400 2 fix things & that we could pay $700 now & then he would guarantee his friend the other half out of the closing. His friend started work, we paid $700, his friend walked off the job & did not rtn after pmt & didn't complete the job. 2days later after many unanswered calls 2 realtor 2 find out whats going on he finally calls back & says the other half of pmt is needed inorder to finish job. That's not what we agreed on and he's back-tracking saying he didn't tell us that the other half would be paid out of closing. 2wks later his friend sends us an invoice 4 a bal.pmt of $653($853material,$500 labor). Its not fair & we feel that we r being ''scammed''. We never signed a contract w/the buddy -agreements were made betwn us & the realtor & theres no signed contract betwn us & him either-work was incomplete & we no longer want him as realtor -unprofessional. r we liable 4 further charges? We have since finished the work ourselves. Thank U

Re: Verbal Agreement - liable
What further charges could you be liable for?
You paid $700 for half the job and apparently that's all that was completed by the contractor buddy and therefore you could not owe for any more than what you've already paid.
