Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia
Verbal Contract/Employment Details
I work for a large government contracting corporation that is currently under federal scruitny. During my recruitment I was informed that my work hours would be from 8am to 5pm, Mon - Fri. I was also told that I would be performing a specific type of work. It was not until after my acceptance of the position and my relocation to Germany (from the U.S.) that I was informed that my work schedule would vary daily and is generally from 3pm to 2am working for 4 days straight, recieving 1 day off, and then begining the cycle again with another 4 days. They type of work that I am performing is also completely different than what I had been told. Is the information given to be by the recruiter for my company a legally binding contract?

Amended answer: Second line should read "it's highly unlikely that it could be proven....,etc."
Re: Verbal Contract/Employment Details
If there is an enforceable contract(with emphasis on the adjective)in your situation, it's highly likely that it could to proved to be of such concrete terms and conditions that the company would be absolutely foreclosed from requiring
you and other employees from working the hours and shifts which you've described.
